Former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) says President Trump should “absolutely” release his tax returns to end the controversy.
“I’m a Trump supporter, [but] he should release his taxes,” Walsh said Monday on MSNBC. “I do think this issue will come back and bite him in the butt.”
Walsh said Trump and other Republicans are missing legitimate outrage from liberals.
If Donald Trump and the Republicans continue to push this narrative that this protest movement on the left isn’t real, it’s going to overtake them,” he said. “They’re going to lose next year.
“That’s exactly what the Democrats said six years ago about the Tea Party movement, and they were wrong.”
Thousands of people turned out last Saturday at rallies nationwide demanding that Trump release his tax returns.
Trump mocked the demonstrations Sunday, saying “the election is over” and wondering on Twitter who “paid for” the events across the country.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Monday that Trump’s 2016 tax returns are under audit and will not be released.
